It is hard to believe we are in the middle of summer. We feel so blessed when the warm sunshine and breezes make for a perfect day outdoors. It is the time of year our staff enjoys as they travel from home to home and witness the beautiful shades of green grass and blooming flowers. We started our summer off with an appreciation luncheon for our entire staff and families. We were blessed that so many family members were able to attend.

We try to make this annual Appreciation Luncheon extra special for our staff with giveaways, awards and recognition for the hard work they put in to accomplish their role in assisting people to stay in their own homes. Awards were given to employees who have given 15, 10, and 5 years of service to Western Illinois Home Health Care and Western Illinois Managed Home Services. Recipients included, Jen Podhajsky, 15 years. Kathy Bewley and Rosemary Gardner were recognized for 10 years of service. Roberta Brown, Sharon Frazier, Gloria Corbin, Rebecca Howell, Tina Crouch, Susan Taylor, Nicole Warner and Cheryl Little were given recognition for 5 years of service.

A special part of the event was honoring area caregivers who dedicate their lives caring for their loved ones. They are honored with a clock to symbolize their dedication of time, over and over again, to take care of someone they love. This year’s winners were Tommy Combites, Leo Ramer and Penny Keith.

This was the first year we invited families to the event. It was special and amazing how everyone, especially the younger group, was so attentive and engaged in the program. We have a library of wonderful pictures of our staff and their families taken by a local photographer. I hope you enjoy the picture of all 190 of us posed perfectly for the moment. We will share more pictures with you as the year continues to move forward.

I wanted to devote most of this letter to our Appreciation Luncheon, but I do have a couple updates for you on our activities. We are on our eighth week of having a clinical consultant on site to work with our staff on several projects in our nursing and rehab department. We have committed to a three-month period to enhance our processes that will help our nursing staff as we manage patients’ illnesses, recovery and rehab at home. An additional goal we’ve achieved has been improved efficiencies to meet the constant demand from ever-changing regulatory requirements with technology upgrades.

As I write this letter, I look forward to our son’s wedding with the whole family preparing and awaiting the special day. I hope in the next letter to share pictures with you. A dear friend of mine, whose son recently married, shared with me that you realize how truly blessed you are in that moment when the ceremony finally arrives.  May God continue to bless you in the midst of your daily demands and protect your loved ones.
