Meet Our Directors

Jen Podhajsky is currently serving as Director of Technology Resources for Western Illinois Home Health Care. She has worked for the agency for over fifteen years and has worked in multiple areas of the business. From her various roles throughout the years, she brings a strong depth of knowledge of all agency systems and processes. As Director of Technology Resources, her realm of responsibility includes overseeing technology needs, IT support requests, information systems management, and designing custom reports for the agency. Jen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Western Illinois University along with minors in Computer Science and Economics. Jen currently works part-time as she and her husband, Jeff, are raising and home schooling their growing family. Jen is active in her parish and volunteers her time to design Immaculate Conception Church’s website and monthly newsletter.

Rachel Hecox is currently serving as Director of Clinical Services for Western Illinois Home Health Care. In this position, she is in charge of all clinical services including nursing, therapy, social work and home health aides for the ten county service area in Western Illinois. Rachel earned a bachelor’s degree of science in nursing from Quincy University and has previously spent many years working in hospital and nursing home settings. It was home care that Rachel developed a passion for after moving back into Western Illinois to live closer to her family. Outside of work, Rachel is very active with her family, community, and church. Rachel and her husband, Brian, have two teenage sons and are members of the Abingdon Christian Church.

 Director of Clinical Services

Amanda Newman serves as the Director of Operations for Western Illinois Managed Home Services. She joined the agency in 2012. In this position, she oversees scheduling, quality of services, and human resources. She also provides regulatory oversight. Amanda holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Prior to joining the agency, she worked in the insurance industry for 8 years, serving in a number of management roles. She completed the Multi-Disciplinary Certificate Program in Geriatrics for Non-Physicians. She currently serves on the Legislative Committee for the Illinois Association of Community Care Program Homecare Providers. Amanda is active in Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

Jeff Podhajsky is currently serving as Director of Financial Services for Western Illinois Managed Home Services. In this position, he is responsible for providing leadership and management expertise in financial accounting, billing and collections, and payroll. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa and spent several years teaching mathematics in various school districts in both Illinois and Iowa. He has served as a member of the financial committee for the Illinois Homecare and Hospice Council since 2012. Jeff is a father of four boys and is an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

Joel Newman is the Director of Business Development for Western Illinois Home Health Care. In his role, he is in charge of all agency marketing, branding, messaging and public relations to increase client intakes. Joel, a 2004 graduate of Western Illinois University, was previously Director of Community Relations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. He completed the Multi-Disciplinary Certificate Program in Geriatrics for Non-Physicians. He currently serves on the Managed Care Committee for the Illinois Homecare and Hospice Council. He resides in Monmouth and is a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Barbara Byers is the CEO and President of Western Illinois Home Health Care and Western Illinois Managed Home Services. Barbara has accepted the helm of leadership in this position for over 35 years. Barbara is a graduate of University of Iowa nursing program where she had her introduction to home care and came back to her local area and started the company. As the company grew, she went back to college to obtain her Masters in Health Care Administration. Barbara has served on several home care tasks forces and committees. She has served on the Illinois Home Care Association board of Directors and is currently serving on the Board to represent Private Duty home care. Barbara has served our service area community on numerous Boards and committees over the last 35 years. Barb and her husband, Ron, have one son and two daughters. Their son, Dan, helps run the family farm with Ron. Their two daughters, Jen and Amanda, work in the family home care business. They are active parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

Alice Stenander, RN, is the Director of Support Services for Western Illinois Home Health Care. She has been with the company for 31 years and started as a field nurse. She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa. Alice received her Bachelors of Science from St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. Ever since entering the medical field, Alice has worked to promote the importance of individual health and overall well-being. She is currently working with the Private Pay clients and involved in developing the Senior Care Management concept and team. She is a member of the National Private Duty Association, past board member of Hospice Compassus, Member of Galesburg noon Rotary, PEO-chapter MG, the Classic Wooden Boat Association, and active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Galesburg. She feels grateful and blessed to have three children and six grandchildren.
